The video for Rihanna’s “Work (featuring Drake)” did not emerge until the middle of the most recent February 19-25 tracking week.
But insofar as the song reached #1 on last week’s Billboard Hot 100 prior to the release of its video, even an abbreviated week’s worth of video streams was likely going to help it maintain the lead.
Indeed it did; the “ANTI” single earns a second straight week at #1 on the all-encompassing chart. In addition to the expected gain in weekly streams (to 46.5 million, +80%), the song benefited from weekly increases in sales (to 169,000, +42%) and airplay (to 90 million impressions, +18%).
How impressive is that streaming total? Since Nielsen began tracking streams, only Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” and Adele’s “Hello” have posted greater weekly totals in the US.
In terms of the overall Hot 100, the song’s closest competition comes from Justin Bieber’s former #1 “Love Yourself,” which holds at #2 on the listing.
