“Spotlight” Wins Oscar For Best Original Screenplay; “The Big Short” Earns Adapted Trophy

Prior to announcing the winner of the night’s first award, Oscars presenter Emily Blunt confirmed that the ceremony will reveal the winners in accordance with the filmmaking process.

That means the night’s first awards were those for screenplay — Best Original and Best Adapted.

Best Original Screenplay went to “Spotlight” writers Tom McCarthy and Josh Singer.

Adam McKay and Charles Randolph, meanwhile, won Best Adapted Screenplay for “The Big Short.”
