“Deadpool” Remains #1 at Weekend Box Office, “Risen” Takes #3, “Race” Misses Top 5

Absent anything approximating major competition, “Deadpool” cruised to a second straight weekend box office victory.

Studio estimates have the film earning $55.0 million this weekend. The tally, which brings the film’s cumulative gross to $235.4 million, more than quadruples that of its nearest competitor.

Holdover “Kung Fu Panda 3,” that nearest competitor, earned $12.5 million.

With $11.8 million in receipts, new release “Risen” grabs #3. The new and critically acclaimed “The Witch” takes #4 with $8.7 million, but it boasts a slightly higher per-screen count than “Risen” ($4.25K vs. $4.05K).

“How To Be Single” follows as #5 on the strength of $8.2 million in receipts.

“Race,” the weekend’s other new wide release, starts at #6 with a modest $7.3 million.
