Ratings: “Better Call Saul” Season 2 Premiere Draws 2.57 Million Viewers

In terms of ratings, AMC’s “Better Call Saul” began its second season similarly to how it ended its first one.

Per Nielsen L+SD cable data, Monday’s season two premiere drew a 1.06 adults 18-49 rating and 2.573 million total viewers. The adults 18-49 rating trails the 1.19 drawn by the first season finale, but the viewership tally represents a slight improvement from that episode’s 2.532 million sum.

While season premieres often outperform season finales, this Monday’s “Better Call Saul” premiere faced stiff competition in the form of the 2016 Grammy Awards ceremony. The precise overlap between the two series is not clear (last year’s series premiere drew strong numbers against a Sunday night Grammys telecast, but it received mammoth lead-in support from “The Walking Dead”), but it is highly unlikely the Grammys competition helped AMC’s drama.

Among adults 18-49, Monday’s “Saul” was cable television’s #4 program for the night. It trailed the three individual hours of WWE RAW.

— The comparison to last year’s time period premiere (and second overall episode) is less flattering. The first Monday edition of “Better Call Saul” drew a 1.63 adults 18-49 rating and 3.418 million total viewers on February 9, 2015.
