Shawn Mendes’ “Stitches” Reaches 4X Platinum In US; Camila Cabello Duet Now Platinum

In a press release trumpeting the fact that Shawn Mendes sold out his world tour “in minutes,” Island Records also revealed good news regarding his two hit pop radio singles.

His chart-topping “Stitches” recently attained 4x platinum status in the United States. “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” his Top 10-peaking duet with Camila Cabello, is now platinum.

The RIAA has not yet formally added the new certifications to its website database, but there is no reason to doubt the validity of Island’s claims.

The 4X platinum certification confirms a US unit total of at least 4 million. As of February 1, one unit is equal to 1 paid download or 150 on-demand audio/video streams.

Prior to February 1, a single needed only 100 streams per unit; it is unclear when Island filed for the certification. The RIAA, moreover, has not articulated how retroactive scoring will be applied for digital single awards.

The platinum honor, meanwhile, reveals that “I Know What You Did Last Summer” has crossed the 1 million unit mark.

“IKWYDLS” follows “Life Of The Party,” “Stitches,” and “Something Big” as Mendes’ fourth platinum single in the US. His debut album “Handwritten” is also platinum in the US.
