“Deadpool” Crushes Records, Dominates Weekend Box Office; “How To Be Single” Edges “Zoolander 2”

Everyone knew “Deadpool” was going to claim victory at the weekend box office.

Few expected its victory to be this resounding.

“Deadpool” will earn an estimated–and monstrous–$135.0 million during its first three days of release. The tally obliterates the opening weekend records for an R-rated film (“The Matrix Reloaded,” $91.8 million) and for a February release (“50 Shades of Grey,” #85.2 million).

It also obliterates the totals posted by this weekend’s other cinema options.

“Kung Fu Panda 3,” last week’s leader, slips to #2 with $19.7 million in estimated weekend receipts. New release “How To Be Single” follows with $18.8 million, while fellow newcomer “Zoolander 2” takes #4 with a modest $15.7 million.

“The Revenant” closes out the Top 5 thanks to a $6.9 million weekend.
