“Same Old Love” Edges “Sorry,” Becomes Selena Gomez’ Third Pop Radio #1

A nail-biter of a pop radio race falls in favor of Selena Gomez’ “Same Old Love,” which edges Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” for #1 on this week’s Mediabase pop radio airplay chart.

Bieber’s tune, which spent the past three weeks at #1, held the lead for the first five days of the January 3-9 tracking week and actually gained separation on days three and four.

“Same Old Love,” however, established a clear advantage during the week’s final three days. It narrowed the gap to 9 spins on day five, took the lead on day six, and cemented its win on day seven.

Per Sunday morning data, “Same Old Love” received ~18,650 spins during the January 3-9 tracking week. Up 1,178 from last week’s count, the tally allows Gomez’ song to jump from #2 to #1 on this week’s official chart.

“Sorry,” which slips from #1 to #2, received ~18,427 weekly spins (+127). The spin counts for both songs will be subject to slight revisions later this afternoon, but the outcome will not change. “Same Old Love” is the week’s #1 song at pop radio, and “Sorry” is the runner-up.

“Same Old Love” becomes the third #1 for Gomez, who previously reached the chart’s summit with “Come & Get It” and “Good For You (featuring A$AP Rocky).”

— Up one place, Alessia Cara’s “Here” takes #3 on this week’s chart. It received ~16,349 weekly plays (+944).

Adele’s former #1 “Hello” slips one place to #4 with ~15,004 weekly spins (-1,513), while Meghan Trainor’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You (featuring John Legend)” (~13,026, +166) holds at #5.
