Kurt Sutter Confirms “The Bastard Executioner” Will Not Return For Season 2

Tuesday’s “The Bastard Executioner,” which was initially advertised as a season finale, was actually the last episode of the series.

Creator Kurt Sutter confirmed the news in a statement. He had also been referring to Tuesday’s episode as the final one across his social media networks.

Sutter’s statement, which acknowledges that the audience reaction has been “meh,” appears in an advertisement banner that is running on several Hollywood trade websites.

“I would like to acknowledge The Bastard Executioner family for a once in a lifetime creative and personal experience,” notes the statement. “I have been awed by the talent and commitment of the TBX cast and crew.

“I thank my partners for their trust, support, and tireless effort as I slashed my way through 50 years of Catholic angst.”

After thanking several of the names and companies behind the project, including FX’s John Landgraf, he notes, “The audience has spoken, and unfortunately the word is ‘meh.’ So with due respect, we bring our mythology to an epic and fiery close.”

In addition to posting soft live+same-day ratings, “TBX” has received underwhelming reviews from fans and critics.
