Narrowly shy of that posted by 2012 predecessor “Skyfall,” the opening day tally still comfortably positioned “Spectre” atop the US’ Friday box office.
The latest Bond film earned $28.0 million on opening day, which more than doubled the tally posted by the day’s nearest competitor.
“The Peanuts Movie,” that competitor, garnered $12.1 million in Friday receipts.
The aforementioned “Skyfall” opened with $30.5 million on its first Friday (+$2.2 million in Thursday screenings). It had ultimately grossed $90.6 million by the end of its first weekend.
As far as this Friday goes, the closest competition for the new “Spectre” and “Peanuts” was “The Martian.” Last week’s champion added $2.6 million to its haul.
“Bridge of Spies” (#4, $1.8 million) and “Goosebumps” (#5, $1.7 million) completed the day’s TOp 5.
