“The Martian” Returns to #1 at Box Office, “Steve Jobs,” “Paranormal Activity” Disappoint

After ceding the throne to “Goosebumps” last weekend, “The Martian” returns to the top of the box office chart.

An estimated weekend gross of $15.9 million earned “The Martian” a third, non-consecutive box office victory. It narrowly tops the aforementioned “Goosebumps,” which takes second on the strength of $15.5 million.

“Bridge of Spies” holds at #3 courtesy its $11.4 million, while new release “The Last Witch Hunter” starts at #4. The Vin Diesel vehicle earned $10.8 million in its first weekend.

“Hotel Transylvania 2” completes the Top 5 with a fifth-place, $9.0 million weekend.

New release “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” ($8.2 million) and newly wide “Steve Jobs” ($7.3 million) trail at #6 and #7, respectively. While neither film was expected to post a blockbuster total, both still represent disappointments this weekend.
