Ratings: “Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy” Rise; Again Rank as Top Non-Sports Shows (Updated)

Final Ratings Update: Week-over-week gains in adults 18-49 and total viewership allowed ABC’s “Scandal” and “Grey’s Anatomy” to repeat as Thursday’s top non-sports programs.

Per final Nielsen data, Thursday’s “Scandal” drew a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating with 8.281 million viewers. The numbers top the 2.4 and 8.058 million garnered by the previous week’s broadcast.

“Grey’s Anatomy,” meanwhile, rose from a 2.3 with 8.248 million last week to a 2.4 with 8.964 million viewers for this week’s broadcast.

“Scandal” was the night’s #1 non-sports program in adults 18-49 and #2 such program in viewership. “Grey’s Anatomy” flips the two; it was the leader in viewership and the runner-up in adults 18-49.

Fellow ABC series “How To Get Away With Murder” took third in both columns. This week’s episode posted a 2.1 with 6.951 million viewers.

Last week’s “HTGAWM” posted a 2.0 with 6.812 million.

Fast National Ratings: ABC’s “Scandal” and “Grey’s Anatomy” both enjoyed week-over-week gains in adults 18-49 and total viewership.

They also repeated as Thursday’s top non-sports shows in adults 18-49 and total viewership, respectively.

Per Nielsen fast national data, Thursday’s “Scandal” drew a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating with 8.263 million viewers. Both numbers top those of last week’s episode, which drew a 2.4 with 8.058 million.

Lead-in “Grey’s Anatomy” posted a 2.4 with 8.948 million. The numbers best the 2.3 and 8.248 million marks posted by the previous week’s broadcast.

“Scandal” was the night’s #1 non-sports program in adults 18-49 and #2 non-sports program in viewership. “Grey’s Anatomy” was #1 among non-sports shows in viewership and #2 in adults 18-49.

The third place show, in both respects, was fellow “TGIT” series “How To Get Away With Murder.” The 10PM ABC drama drew a 2.0 with 6.932 million viewers. Last week’s episode posted a 2.0 with 6.812 million.

Thanks to an episode-to-episode uptick, this week’s “Grey’s Anatomy” ranked as Thursday’s top non-sports program in the overnight household ratings.

Per metered market data, Thursday’s “Grey’s” drew a 6.85 overnight household rating. Up from the 6.35 achieved by last week’s episode, the mark also edges that achieved by ABC’s frequent Thursday ratings champion “Scandal.”

This week’s “Scandal” drew a 6.4 overnight household rating, which narrowly trails last week’s 6.45.

In terms of the overnight households, “Scandal” was the night’s #2 non-sports program. Lead-out and fellow “TGIT” series “How To Get Away With Murder,” which posted a 5.4 (even with last week) was #3.

While the exact hierarchy in the adults 18-49 demographic remains to be seen, the overnight household advantage suggests “Grey’s Anatomy” may again lead “Scandal” in total viewership. Last week’s did so — and its overnight household rating was smaller.

Dominated by Thursday Night Football, the three ABC shows comfortably bested all non-sports programming in the overnight households. The closest competition came from NBC’s “The Blacklist,” which drew a 4.75 household rating.

Adults 18-49 and total viewership data is due by 11:15AM ET.
