Ratings: FOX’s “Empire” Falls By 7%, Still Easily Wins Night (Updated)

Final Ratings Update: Wednesday’s “Empire,” which was the third episode of the second season, dipped by 7% in adults 18-49 and by 5% in total viewership.

According to final live+same-day data, it drew a 5.1 adults 18-49 rating with 13.101 million viewers. Last week’s episode posted a 5.5 with 13.742 million.

— FOX led into “Empire” with “Rosewood” (1.8 with 5.751 million viewers this week versus a 2.0 with 6.236 million last week).

Update: FOX’s “Empire” once again suffered week-over-week losses in adults 18-49 and total viewership.

It also once again dominated its Wednesday night competition.

Per Nielsen fast national data, Wednesday’s episode, which was the third of the second season, drew a 5.0 adults 18-49 rating with 12.988 million viewers. Both numbers were by far the best posted by a Wednesday program.

They nonetheless trail the 5.5 rating and 13.742 million viewership mark posted by last week’s episode.

In nearly matching last week’s overnight household rating, FOX’s “Empire” again reigned as the clear winner in the Wednesday ratings race.

Per Nielsen metered market data, Wednesday’s episode drew a 8.7 overnight household rating. Down only slightly from the previous week’s 9.0, the rating was by far the best overnight household number posted by a Wednesday night series.

Its closest competition came from ABC’s “Modern Family,” which drew a considerably lesser 5.5 overnight household rating.

“Empire” will also rank as a dominant #1 in adults 18-49 and total viewership. Preliminary forms of those numbers will be issued by 11:15AM ET.

While it seems clear “Empire” is done growing, at least as far as live+same-day ratings go, it is definitely not done dominating.
