Backstage Look: Star Tony Goldwyn Directs Next Week’s “Scandal” Episode

Entitled “Yes,” next week’s “Scandal” finds star Tony Goldwyn returning to the director’s chair.

Goldwyn, who directed episodes in each of the show’s three previous seasons (season two’s “A Woman Scorned,” season three’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” and season four’s “Where The Sun Don’t Shine”), helms the second episode of the ABC drama’s fifth season.

“The Pope and Associates team dives into a new case that takes Olivia out of D.C. and away from the President,” says ABC of the episode, which airs on October 1. “Meanwhile, back at the White House, Fitz is determined to find who’s responsible for causing the latest turn of events, and Abby receives unexpected guidance from a master of damage control as she struggles to catch a break.”

Those who watched this Thursday’s season premiere know that the “latest turn of events” refers to the public outing of Fitz and Olivia’s affair. Since “The Liberty Report” host Sally Langston had photographic documentation of the couple’s interactions within the White House, the indication is that someone connected to Fitz’ inner circle is responsible.

In advance of Thursday’s episode, ABC shared production photos. It also shared behind-the-scenes shots of Goldwyn leading the “Scandal” team.
