HBO’s “Game of Thrones” Wins Emmys for Writing, Directing

HBO’s flagship series “Game of Thrones” is the Emmy winner for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

It is also the victor for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.

David Benioff & D. B. Weiss specifically earned the former trophy, which came in recognition of their work on the “Mother’s Mercy” episode. “GoT” beat out “The Americans,” “Better Call Saul” and two episodes of “Mad Men” in the writing category.

The directing honor recognizes David Nutter for helming the same episode. Fellow “Game of Thrones” episode “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” and episodes of “The Knick,” “Homeland,” and “Boardwalk Empire” were also in the running.
