“We Are Your Friends” Bombs; “War Room,” “Compton” Top Friday Box Office

Zac Efron’s tepidly reviewed EDM film “We Are Your Friends” predictably got off to an abymal got off to an abysmal start at the box office.

The film earned a mere $725,000 in Friday receipts. The tally, which amounts to an average of just $311 per screen, positions “Friends” at #12 on the Friday box office chart.

The chart’s leader is religion-oriented film “War Room,” which earned $3.875 million from its semi-wide 1,135 screen count ($3,414 per screen). It narrowly edges “Straight Outta Compton” ($3.830 million) on the Friday chart.

“Compton” is nonetheless expected to overtake “War Room” by the end of the weekend. It will thus top the weekend box office for a third straight weke.

New release “No Escape,” Friday’s #3 film, earned a soft $2.440 million. “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” ($2.180 million) and “Sinister 2” ($1.400 million) followed at #4 and #5, respectively.
