“Straight Outta Compton” Easily Tops Weekend Box Office, “Man from UNCLE” Earns $13.5M

Thanks to a gross that more than triples that of its nearest competitor, “Straight Outta Compton” cruises to a weekend box office victory.

Per studio estimates, the film earned a healthy $56.1 million in its opening weekend. The tally, which gives “Compton” the weekend victory, comfortably tops initial industry projections.

“Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” which spent the past two weeks at #1, slips to #2 this week. It earned $17.3 million.

New release “The Man From UNCLE” follows with $13.5 million in weekend receipts. “Fantastic Four” ($8.0 million, #4) and “The Gift” ($6.5 million, #5) complete the top five.

Predictable given its terrible reviews, “Fantastic Four” suffered a massive 69% second weekend drop.
