Ratings: HBO’s “Ballers” Climbs; “The Brink,” “Last Week Tonight” Fall

Leading out of the extended “True Detective” season finale (1.21 in A18-49, 2.727 million viewers) HBO’s “Ballers” enjoyed week-over-week gains in adults 18-49 and total viewership.

Sunday’s episode, which aired at 10:30, posted a 0.87 adults 18-49 rating 1.713 million viewers.

While that performance tops last week’s showing — a 0.76 in adults 18-49 with 1.590 million viewers — it did not reap the full benefit of its elevated lead-in support.

Whereas this week’s “True Detective” was the most-watched episode since June 28, this week’s “Ballers” did not even outdraw the July 26 installment (0.92 rating, 1.811 million viewers).

It did, nonetheless, enjoy a week-over-week gain. That cannot be said for “The Brink” (0.39 with 892,000 viewers this week versus a 0.46 with 999,000 last week) and “Last Week Tonight” (0.38 with 929,000 this week versus a 0.42 with 975,000 viewers last week).

To their credit, they likely did suffer from the scheduling push-back. “The Brink” aired from 11:02-11:28, and “Last Week Tonight” aired from 11:30-12:00.
