Drake’s “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” Crosses 1 Million US Sales

While the official data for the July 31-August 6 tracking week will not be reported until next week, enough is available to confirm that the cumulative sales total for Drake’s “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” crossed the 1 million mark.

Going into the July 31 tracking week, “If You’re Reading This” boasted a sales total of approximately 998,000. Early returns indicate it moved between 5-8,000 — and definitely more than 2,000 — during that seven-day tracking frame. As a result, its cume now exceeds 1 million.

Released as a Valentine’s weekend surprise in February, “If You’re Reading This” was officially billed as a mixtape but positioned similarly to a commercial studio album (albeit without a conventional promotional blitz). Despite emerging with only three days remaining in the tracking period, its opening “week” sales total of 495,000 remains the greatest for an album released in 2015.

“If You’re Reading This” is the second album–and first 2015 release–to sell 1 million year-to-date copies. Taylor Swift’s “1989,” which emerged in late 2014, had achieved 1 million YTD sales by mid-April.
