“Descendants” Soundtrack Expected to Win Sales Race with ~30K

The good news: the soundtrack to Disney’s “Descendants” is expected to rank as the week’s best-selling album.

The bad news: its projected weekly total would represent the Soundscan era’s lowest for a #1 album.

According to Hits Daily Double, the soundtrack should debut with 28-33,000 first week sales. That tally should give it the edge over the three new Led Zeppelin re-issues (“Presence,” “Coda” and “In Through the Out Door”), which are each on track to move 22-25,000 copies.

From a pure sales standpoint, other notable weekly performers will include Lil Dicky’s “Professional Rapper” (~21-24,000), Jill Scott’s “Woman” (~21-24,000), Future’s “DS2” (~18-21,000), Taylor Swift’s “1989” (~17-20,000), Tyrese’s “Black Rose” (~14-17,000), Saint Asonia’s “Saint Asonia” (~14-17,000) and Migos’ “Yung Rich Nation” (~12-14,000).

— Joining “Descendants” in the race for #1 on the consumption-oriented Billboard 200, which ranks albums based on the sum of pure sales, Track Equivalent Albums (track sales/10) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (streams/1500), will be Taylor Swift’s “1989” and Future’s “DS2.”
