Jill Scott’s “Woman” Wins Sales Race With 58K; Lamb of God, Southpaw, Bea Miller Follow (Updated)

Update: An official total of 58,000 opening week sales earns Jill Scott’s “Woman” the #1 spot on this week’s Billboard Top Album Sales chart.

It is the second #1 album for Scott, who previously topped the chart with 2011’s “The Light of the Sun.”

With Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 album sale) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 album sale) included, “Woman” generated a first week consumption total of 62,000. That earns the album the top spot on the consumption-oriented Billboard 200.

The top 10 of this week’s BB 200 follows:

1) Jill Scott – Woman – 62K total units (58K from sales)
2) Future – DS2 – 52K total units
3) Lamb of God – VII: Sturm Und Drang – 50K total units (47K from sales)

==================

While nothing is final until Billboard publishes its album charts on Tuesday, it appears Jill Scott’s “Woman” won the weekly sales race.

According to Hits Daily Double, “Woman” drove approximately 57,797 pure sales during the July 24-30 tracking week. The total, which was the week’s best for an album, tops the industry’s already-upgraded 50-55,000 projection.

Billboard’s final data will differ slightly, but the disparity will doubtfully be great enough to knock “Woman” from the top of the totem pole.

Music fans should, therefore, expect to see “Woman” in the #1 slot on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart.

The album’s closest competition came from Lamb of God’s “VII: Sturm Und Drang.” That release, which also appears to have exceeded its forecast, moved approximately 48,560 copies during the aforementioned tracking week.

Other notable pure sales performers include the “Southpaw” soundtrack (~33,394), Future’s holdover champ “DS2” (~31,649), Bea Miller’s “Not an Apology” (~25,504), Tyrese’s “Black Rose” (~24,051), Taylor Swift’s “1989” (~23,425) and We Came as Romans’ “We Came as Romans” (~22,380).

With Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 album sale) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 album sale) included, “Woman” generated a consumption total of approximately 61,357 units. That total should earn “Woman” the #1 spot on the revamped, consumption-oriented Billboard 200 chart.

Other top performers from a consumption standpoint include “DS2” (~51,656 units), “VII: Sturm Und Drang” (~50,899), “1989” (~48,556) and Meek Mill’s “Dreams Worth More Than Money” (~35,527), Ed Sheeran’s “x” (~33,986).

The Billboard/Nielsen sales data will begin to emerge on Sunday, but it will not be considered final until Tuesday. In each of the past three sales cycles, Nielsen needed to recalculate data — sometimes more than once — between the two reports.
