Halsey’s “New Americana” Rockets Into Alt Radio’s Top 50; Pop Evil, Muse Also Rise

Halsey’s “New Americana” does not officially impact the alternative radio format until July 21, but it is already receiving notable airplay.

Spun 170 times during the July 12-18 tracking week (+141), “New Americana” ranks as the Mediabase alternative panel’s #44 song. It was #128 last week.

Thanks to its support from high-profile stations, including San Francisco’s Live 105, Los Angeles’ KROQ and Los Angeles’ Alt 98.7, it ranks even more impressively from an audience standpoint. Its weekly audience impression count of 2.049 million ranks as the alternative format’s 20th-greatest.

Upon playing the song on his Apple Beats 1 show, radio DJ Zane Lowe exclaimed, “That is big. That record is big. Oh my God!”

The song is cut from Halsey’s forthcoming album “Badlands,” which is expected to make an impressive sales impact when it arrives on August 28.

— Pop Evil’s “Footsteps” and Muse’s “Mercy” also reach the Top 50 this week. “Footsteps” rises three places to #48 on the strength of its 147 spins (+21), while “Mercy” enjoys a nineteen place boost to #50 courtesy its 143 weekly plays (+72).
