When the extended June 29-July 9 tracking week reached its conclusion, Demi Lovato’s “Cool for the Summer” boasted a US sales total of nearly 110,000.
As previously reported, 80,000 sales came inside the seven-day June 29-July 5 tracking week (“Cool for the Summer” was only available for the latter five). Nielsen Music confirms that the song drove approximately 28,000 additional downloads in the four days between July 6 and July 9.
The result was a combined 108,000–and a #15 position on Digital Songs–for the eleven days between June 29 and July 9. The extended tracking week was used as a means of transitioning from a Monday-Sunday tracking week to a Friday-Thursday system.
From a chart standpoint, Billboard actually treats the June 29-July 5 and June 29-July 9 periods as separate weeks (Lovato’s track thus debuted as the #11 Digital Song and slipped to #15 in week two). From a cumulative sales point, downloads generated between June 29 and July 5 only count once.
In addition to moving 108,000 downloads during the June 29-July 9 sales tracking week, “Cool” generated 36 million radio impressions during the July 6-12 radio tracking week and 2.4 million streams during the July 3-9 streaming tracking week. Collectively, the statistics thrust the song to #28 on this week’s Hot 100.
