Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” Goes 5X Platinum in the United States

Ellie Goulding’s US breakthrough “Lights” has officially added a new level to its multi-platinum status.

According to the RIAA, “Lights” received a 5x platinum certification on July 13, 2015.

Under the terms of the RIAA’s digital singles program, the 5x certification confirms a US unit total in excess of 1 million. One unit is equal to a paid download or 100 streams.

First released in 2011, the song made its biggest US splash in 2012. It ultimately reached a peak of #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remains the highest-peaking US hit of her career.
