ABC Family’s “Stitchers” Earns a Second Season Renewal

Citing the show’s fan support and resonance with viewers in the 18-34 and 12-34 demographics, ABC Family announced that it has renewed “Stitchers” for a second season.

“Fans are enjoying the camaraderie of the Stitchers team and a lead character that is unapologetically smart, focused and a great role model to young women,” said ABC Family’s Karey Burke. “We look forward to seeing more of the Stitchers team tackling diverse cases as they unravel the mystery behind the program’s creation.”

In renewing the show this week, ABC Family established itself as unintimidated by last week’s series low performance. The episode, which was the first to air without “Pretty Little Liars” lead-in support, posted a mere 0.30 adults 18-49 rating with 711,000 viewers. Its marks in adults 18-34 (0.27) and females 12-34 (0.46) were also soft.

While not quite as weak, the ratings for the previous five episodes were far from spectacular. ABC Family’s renewal announcement nonetheless offers a positive spin on the show’s performance.

“Launch to date, ‘Stitchers’ is cable TV’s #1 scripted series on Tuesdays at 9 o’clock in Adults 18-34, Women 18-34, Viewers 12-34 and Females 12-34,” says the network.

ABC Family’s announcement did not confirm an episode order or premiere date for the second season. The show’s summer finale airs on August 4.
