“Teen Beach 2” Soundtrack Opens with 19.6K First Week Sales

Two years ago, the “Teen Beach Movie” soundtrack debuted at #8 on the weekly album sales chart.

The soundtrack to “Teen Beach 2” did not drive as many first week sales, but it actually lands higher on the pure sales chart.

According to Nielsen Music, the “Teen Beach 2” album shifted 19,554 copies during the June 22-28 tracking week. That earns it the #7 position on the top album sales chart.

Released in a more competitive market, the original “Teen Beach Movie” soundtrack moved 25,000 copies but ranked as the week’s eighth-best-selling album.

With Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 album sale) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 album sale) included, “Teen Beach 2” generated a first week consumption total of 24,000 units. That earns it the #10 position on the revamped, consumption-oriented Billboard 200.

In 2013, the Billboard 200 only accounted for pure sales. Since the “Teen Beach Movie” soundtrack was the eighth-best-selling album in its first week, it debuted higher on the Billboard 200.
