Last month, famed producer Diplo made waves by claiming that “Lean On,” which he released as part of Major Lazer, is a bigger worldwide hit than any of Rihanna’s recent tracks.
“I was in the studio with Rihanna two weeks ago, still playing the game,” Diplo told London Evening Standard. “I was trying to convince her why she should do so-and-so, and thinking, ‘Lean On is bigger than any of her songs around the world right now. Why am I even sitting here trying to negotiate?’”
Friday morning, he added more intrigue to the story by claiming Rihanna turned down an offer to record “Lean On.”
Replying to The Fader, which recently published, “14 Songs Written For Rihanna That Other People Recorded,” Diplo Tweeted, “we also had ‘lean on’ for riri but was turned down.”
Major Lazer ended up tapping Danish artist MØ to record the “Lean On” vocals. The track, which also credits DJ Snake, is currently in the Top 10 on the US iTunes sales chart and #17 on the Billboard Hot 100.
