Sawyer Fredericks’ “Please” Debuted with 118K First Week Sales; “Old Man” Sold 72K

Sawyer Fredericks’ “Please” appears at #37 on this week’s all-encompassing Billboard Hot 100. The song primarily owes its Top 40 position to a six-figure opening week sales total.

According to Nielsen Music, “Please” drove 118,000 copies during the May 18-24 tracking week. It was the week’s sixth-best-selling single and second-hottest newcomer (after Luke Bryan’s “Kick the Dust Up”).

In driving that many downloads, Fredericks’ “Please” got off to a hotter start than the corresponding single from season seven winner Craig Wayne Boyd. “My Baby’s Got a Smile On Her Face,” that single, shifted 99,000 copies in its first week of release.

Despite the lighter sales total, “Smile” debuted higher (at #34) on the all-encompassing Hot 100.

The “Please” sales total does not, however, top that of season seven’s “Wasted Love.” Released by runner-up Matt McAndrew, “Wasted Love” posted a first week sales total of 209,000. It landed at #14 on the Hot 100.

— “Old Man,” Fredericks’ other solo from last week’s “The Voice” finale, moved 72,000 copies in the May 18-24 tracking week. It appears at #63 on the Hot 100.

“In Pictures,” Craig Wayne Boyd’s other solo finale performance, moved a considerably lesser 30,000 copies in its first week.
