Ratings Update: The CW’s “iZombie” Holds Up Absent Original “Flash” Lead-in

Update: While the removal of a New York City baseball pre-emption resulted in an adjustment to the preliminary “iZombie” viewership total, it did not affect the episode’s initially reported adults 18-49 rating.

Per final broadcast data, this week’s edition of The CW series drew a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating with 1.56 million viewers.

This week’s “iZombie” aired out of a “The Flash” re-run (0.4 rating, 1.34 million viewers). Last week’s installment, which followed the season finale of “The Flash” (1.5 rating, 3.87 million viewers), drew the same 0.6 adults 18-49 rating but a viewership total of just 1.50 million.

In holding steady in the demo and gaining viewers despite a dramatic reduction in lead-in, “iZombie” again proved that it is attracting a core audience of its own.

“iZombie” previously made this case on April 7. That episode, too, held up in the demo despite airing out of a low-rated “Flash” encore.

Both “iZombie” and “The Flash” have been renewed for second seasons. They will continue to air in their existing Tuesday night timeslots.
=======================

Thanks to a baseball pre-emption in the New York market, the fast national rating for Tuesday’s “iZombie” will likely be subject to an atypically large — and almost certainly downward — adjustment. The final, corrected report will be available by Thursday morning.

Unable to account for the New York baseball pre-emption, the subject-to-change fast national report says Tuesday’s episode drew a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating with 1.85 million viewers.

As it currently stands, the adults 18-49 rating matches the 0.6 drawn by last week’s episode. The 1.85 million viewership mark, meanwhile, tops the 1.50 million posted by the May 17 installment.

When the baseball inflation is removed, the adults 18-49 rating may end up trailing last week’s mark. The viewership number will likely be closer to that drawn on May 17.

Tuesday’s “iZombie” was the first episode since April 7 to air without support from an original “The Flash.” In drawing a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating with 1.77 million viewers, that episode held up considerably well — and proved that “iZombie” was able to attract its own audience.
