NBC Cancels Comedies “One Big Happy,” “Marry Me,” “About a Boy”

NBC has predictably pulled the plug on three of its four active comedies.

Sophomore “About a Boy” and freshmen “One Big Happy” and “Marry Me” will not be returning next season.

The three series delivered ratings and viewership marks that would have been considered disappointing in any context. The fact that many of their episodes aired in the hour after NBC’s flagship “The Voice” (“Marry Me” directly followed “The Voice,” while “About a Boy” led out of “Marry Me” and “One Big Happy” led out of “Undateable”) adds to that aura of disappointment.

Still alive, “Undateable” is strongly expected to be renewed — and rumors say many, if not all, of its third season episodes could adhere to a live format.

NBC has meanwhile picked up new comedies “People are Talking,” “Crowded” and “Superstore” for next season.
