When Nicki Minaj’s “Truffle Butter (featuring Drake and Lil Wayne)” began to gain unsolicited traction at pop radio this winter, label Republic Records naturally made the decision to delay its planned “The Night is Still Young” push.
Now that the “Truffle Butter” run is over, “Young” is back on the radar. It officially impacts pop radio this week.
While the song’s complete weekly add count will not be reported until Tuesday evening, Republic can celebrate at least one high-profile pickup.
New York’s powerhouse pop station Z100 has officially added “The Night is Still Young.”
It is far too early to determine whether “The Night is Still Young” will become the first Top 20 pop hit from Minaj’s “The Pinkprint,” but early support from one of America’s most influential radio stations is certainly not a condemnatory sign.
Z100 also added Echosmith’s “Bright” and Marlon Roudette’s “When the Beat Drops Out” this week.
Already a solid performer at pop radio, “Bright” claimed #21 on this week’s Mediabase airplay chart. “Beat” was #51.
