Rihanna’s “American Oxygen” Debuts With ~20K Sales; “BBHMM” Moves Another ~53K

A modest weekly sales total establishes Rihanna’s new pop single “American Oxygen” as the week’s 78th-best seller*.

According to Nielsen Music, “Oxygen” moved 19.9K paid downloads during the tracking week ending April 19. That week represented the first in which “Oxygen,” which premiered as a TIDAL exclusive, became available for purchase on iTunes.

The song’s opening tally represents a far cry from the 108.3K moved by rhythmic and urban single “Bitch Better Have My Money” in its abbreviated first week of availability.

Responsible for an additional 53.2K paid downloads during the tracking week ending April 19, “Bitch” boasts a cumulative US sales total of 359.1K.

“FourFiveSeconds,” on which Rihanna shares a lead artist credit with Kanye West and Paul McCartney, claims a cumulative total in excess of 1.5 million.

*”American Oxygen” appears at #78 on the expanded Nielsen/Billboard Digital Songs chart. The official chart Billboard publishes every Thursday only covers the week’s Top 50 sellers.
