Ratings: The CW’s “iZombie” Hits Low, “The Flash” Falls Slightly (Updated)

Update: The final broadcast ratings report, which adjusts for the local sports pre-emptions that affected the fast national data, reveals that Tuesday’s “iZombie” drew a low in adults 18-49.

Tuesday’s episode, which was the series’ sixth broadcast on record, drew a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating with 1.80 million viewers. All previous installments of the new CW series–including one that aired after a “The Flash” re-run–scored either a 0.7 or 0.8.

Last week’s, which drew a viewership total of 1.85 million, was one of the two to post a 0.8 in adults 18-49.

Given how reliably “iZombie” has performed thus far and the fact that even this week’s rating compares favorably to several of the network’s renewed programs, the drop should not elicit a major panic. The freshman drama will, however, want to assure the episode-to-episode decline does not turn into a trend.

While this week’s “The Flash” also suffered a week-over-week decline in the demo, it benefited from an upward adjustment in the final ratings report. Tuesday’s episode drew a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating with 3.75 million viewers.

Last week’s airing delivered a 1.4 with 3.75 million viewers.
====================

Thanks to a baseball pre-emption in at least one major market, fast national data for Tuesday’s The CW programs–which measures performance by timeslot rather than by program–will be subject to revision in the final daily ratings report.

One, consequently, cannot yet offer an assessment of how “The Flash” and “iZombie” truly fared this week.

The data that is available, however, reveals declines for both programs in the coveted adults 18-49 demographic.

Per the sports-altered fast national report, Tuesday’s “The Flash” drew a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating with 3.66 million viewers. Lead-out “iZombie” scored a 0.7 with 2.17 million viewers.

Last week’s “The Flash” posted a 1.4 with 3.67 million viewers in the finals. “iZombie” delivered a 0.8 with 1.85 million.

The disparity in skew — this week’s numbers reveal greater audience levels outside the adults 18-49 demographic — helps to illustrate the existence of a sports impact on the rating.

Presently unclear, however, is the extent to which correcting for the pre-emption will impact the adults 18-49 and total viewership numbers in the final report.

The answer will come when that report is issued by 6PM ET.
