Shawn Mendes’ “Handwritten” is projected to land atop next week’s Billboard Top Album Sales and Billboard 200 charts.
According to Hits Daily Double, the teen artist’s debut album is expected to move 100-110,000 traditional copies during its first week of release. With Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 album sale) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 album sale) included, “Handwritten” should net a first week consumption total of 110-120,000 units.
The former will easily be enough for #1 on the Top Album Sales chart, while the latter will give “Handwritten” a #1 bow on the consumption-oriented Billboard 200.
News of the expected achievements should not come as a surprise. Reports recently confirmed that “Handwritten” had banked upwards of 65,000 pre-orders prior to its April 14 release. Those pre-order purchases count toward the album’s inaugural sales total.
As far as new releases go, Reba’s “Love Somebody” and Tyler the Creator’s “Cherry Bomb” will be the next-best performers. “Love Somebody” is expected to move 55-60,000 traditional copies and 60-65,000 total units, while “Cherry Bomb” will move 50-55,000 pure copies but the same 60-65,000 units.
Expected to move 40-45,000 traditional copies and 45-50,000 consumption units, Halestorm’s “Into the Wild Life” is also on the map.
