Sales: Wiz Khalifa & Charlie Puth’s “See You Again” Moved 464K Last Week

The April 3 release of “Furious 7,” which features a Paul Walker tribute set to Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again (featuring Charlie Puth),” helped drive considerable sales interest in the track.

According to Nielsen Music, the song generated approximately 464,000 paid downloads during the subsequent tracking week (which ended April 12). Enough for an easy #1 on the Digital Songs chart, the weekly sum bests the previous week’s count–which itself enjoyed a few days’ worth of “Furious 7” benefit–by 175%.

To date, “See You Again” has sold approximately 721,000 copies.

While the movie itself generated initial interest, “See You Again” was sustained by a performance on “The Voice,” growing radio support and the release of its video. The result was a 464,000 weekly sales total that put the song in a league of its own on the Digital Songs chart.

In addition to arming the song with an impressive number of Hot 100 chart points, the monstrous weekly sales figure also helped the “Furious 7” soundtrack reach the top of the Billboard 200. Under the chart’s new methodology, the 464,000 “See You Again” downloads count as 46,400 album equivalent units.

The album generated a total 111,000 album equivalent units (with only 45,000 coming from full album sales) during the aforementioned tracking week.
