iTunes performance represents only one component of voting for NBC’s “The Voice.”
When it comes to this week’s results, however, the iTunes single sales chart served as a perfect indicator for the overall voting picture.
The eight contestants who advanced based on America’s vote all ranked as their team’s best or second-best sellers.
Joshua Davis and and Deanna Johnson produced Team Adam’s best-selling singles, and they advanced into the Top 12 based on America’s vote. The same was true for Team Pharrell’s Sawyer Fredericks and Mia Z, Team Christina’s Kimberly Nichole and India Carney and Team Blake’s Corey Kent White and Meghan Linsey.
The remaining four places were filled by coaches’ picks, and three of those selections represented their team’s next-best seller.
Adam Levine chose Brian Johnson, whose single most closely trailed the Davis and Johnson recordings. Pharrell chose Koryn Hawthorne, whose single most closely trailed the Fredericks and Mia Z recordings. Christina Aguilera chose Rob Taylor, whose single most closely trailed the Nichole and Carney recordings.
Blake Shelton’s pick was the only exception to the rule. Hannah Kirby, his selection, was the fourth-best seller on her team. When voting closed Tuesday morning, the single from eliminated contestant Sarah Potenza held a two-position lead over Kirby’s song.
The top twelve take the stage next week. Reba will serve as the guest mentor.
