HBO Officially Cancels “Looking,” Special Wrap-Up Episode to Air

Several weeks ago, Headline Planet reported that an episode of HBO’s “Looking” drew the dreaded 0.0 adults 18-49 rating (0.04 if taken to an extra decimal place) with only 150,000 viewers.

While ratings improved slightly in subsequent weeks (this past Sunday’s season finale drew a 0.1 adults 18-49 rating with 298,000 viewers), that specific article served the jumping off point for many an editorial about the grim fate of “Looking.” Critically acclaimed, the series lacked the audience support to make a renewal seem likely — even given its position on a premium network that does not need to appease advertisers.

Ultimately, that analysis proved correct. HBO has officially cancelled the second-season series.

Per the network, Sunday’s finale will not, however, serve as the final “Looking” installment. A third season will not air, but a wrap-up special will be broadcast at a to-be-determined date.

“After two years of following Patrick and his tight-knit group of friends as they explored San Francisco in search of love and lasting relationships, HBO will present the final chapter of their journey as a special,” says HBO’s statement. “We look forward to sharing this adventure with the show’s loyal fans.”
