Ratings: “Secrets and Lies” Starts Modestly (Updated)

Update: The overnight household ratings were misleading.

While the premiere of ABC’s “Secrets and Lies” matched its “Once Upon a Time” lead-in in the overnights, it did not do so in adults 18-49 or total viewership.

Sunday’s two-hour premiere averaged a modest 1.5 adults 18-49 rating with 5.95 million viewers. Its “Once Upon a Time” lead-in scored a considerably stronger 2.2 rating with 6.55 million viewers.

One positive about the “Secrets and Lies” performance was audience growth in the second hour. While the rating held steady from start-to-finish, the show’s viewership elevated from 5.83 million at 9PM to 6.06 million at 10PM.

There is no guarantee it fared equally in the adults 18-49 demographic, but the metered market ratings suggest “Secrets and Lies” drew roughly the same household audience as its “Once Upon a Time” lead-in.

ABC’s two-hour “Secrets” premiere drew a 4.0 overnight household rating. That matches the “Once Upon a Time” lead-in and foretells a respectable, albeit likely not spectacular, start in the adults 18-49 demographic.

Additionally positive about the performance is the fact that the audience level held very steady throughout the two hours.

As far as the overnight households go, “Secrets and Lies” ranked second in its timeslot (behind CBS’ “The Good Wife” but ahead of FOX’s “The Last Man on Earth.” Interestingly, analysts expect the order to be reversed in the adults 18-49 demographic.

That data, along with total viewership insights, will be shared by 11:15AM ET.
