In recent promotional messages, label Columbia Records has boasted about the strong audience callout scores being commanded by One Direction’s “Night Changes.”
Insofar as the song was beginning to show signs of life after a period of stagnation on the pop radio airplay chart, one such Columbia promotion touted a “research-driven rebound” for “Night Changes.”
Whether that rebound will take the song into the loftiest regions of the chart remains to be seen, but it is definitely not something to completely ignore. This week, the rebound brings “Night Changes” into the Top 15.
Per Mediabase’s official pop radio airplay chart, “Night Changes” rises one place to #15 on the strength of the 5,873 spins it received during the February 22-28 tracking week.
Already more successful than previous “FOUR” single “Steal My Girl,” which peaked at #17, the song now claims membership in higher chart territory. “Steal My Girl” can only be described as a Top 20 hit, while “Night Changes” is now a Top 15 pop performer.
— “Night Changes” represents pop’s only Top 15 addition this week. The format does, however, welcome a new Top 20 hit in the form of Ariana Grande’s “One Last Time.” It rises to #19 (+3) courtesy its 5,148 weekly spins (+1,460).
