“Birdman” Wins Best Picture; Favorites Win All Major Oscars

Oddsmakers were the big winners when it comes to Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony. Each of the night’s major races fell in favor of the betting favorite.

That means “Birdman” indeed won the trophies for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Eddie Redmayne predictably won the Best Actor award for “The Theory of Everything,” while Julianne Moore’s work in “Still Alice” scored her the Best Actress trophy.

JK Simmons (“Whiplash”) and Patricia Arquette (“Boyhood”) surprised no one by winning for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.

Betting favorite “The Imitation Game” scored the Best Adapted Screenplay trophy.

The closest thing to a prominent upset came in the race for Best Animated Feature. There, “Big Hero 6”–not frontrunner “How to Train a Dragon 2”–won the award many will argue belonged to non-nominee “The Lego Movie.”

The official winners list is here.
