Imagine Dragons Will Win Album Sales Race; Drake Could Challenge on BB200

On track for an opening week sales total in the 150-160,000 range, Imagine Dragons’ “Smoke + Mirrors” is poised to win the weekly sales race.

Save for any unexpected developments this weekend, Hits Daily Double says the band’s sophomore album will achieve a decently comfortable victory on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart.

The album’s closest competition on the pure sales chat will come in the form of Drake’s “If You’re Reading This it’s Too Late.” After moving 495,000 copies in its first weekend, “If You’re Reading This” will move 125-135,000 in its first full week of availability. The “50 Shades of Grey” soundtrack should follow with what Hits envisions projects as a 110-120,000 weekly total.

The Drake album will, however, put up a fight on the revamped Billboard 200 chart. Set to receive a considerably stronger boost from track equivalent album (10 single sales = 1 album sale) and streaming equivalent album (1500 single streams = 1 album sale) data, “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” is on track for a total consumption unit count in the same 170-180,000 range as the Imagine Dragons release.

“50 Shades of Grey” will follow with a consumption total in the vicinity of 150-160,000.
