Ratings: Grammy Awards Fall 14% from Last Year (Updated)

Update 2: Updated fast national ratings, which now account for the entire 8:00-11:39PM Grammys broadcast, reveal that Sunday’s ceremony drew an 8.5 adults 18-49 rating with 25.3 million viewers.

The numbers trail those of last year’s show, which drew a 9.9 adults 18-49 rating with 28.5 million viewers.

Update: While no conclusion can be reached until final numbers for the full broadcast are made available, the first wave of ratings data for Sunday’s Grammy Awards ceremony does not compare favorably to that posted last year.

Per fast national data, the 8-11PM portion of Sunday’s show drew an 8.8 adults 18-49 rating with 26.2 million viewers. The equivalent slice of last year’s broadcast scored a 10.1 with 29.7 million.
==========

There is no guarantee the same will be true of the more important adults 18-49 and total viewership numbers, but the overnight household rating for Sunday’s Grammy Awards telecast narrowly trails that posted last year.

After posting a 17.7 overnight household rating for last year’s show, the CBS-televised Grammys drew a 16.7 this year.

As far as the overnights go, the peak rating came during the 8:30-9PM half hour. That portion, which drew an 18.6 rating, featured performances by Miranda Lambert, Kanye West and Madonna.
