“Truffle Butter” has commanded early support from powerhouse pop radio stations, but Republic Records is evidently not planning to push the song as Nicki Minaj’s next official pop single.
The label’s promotional effort will instead be devoted to Minaj’s “The Night is Still Young.” Republic’s radio promotions website confirms a March 3 pop radio impact date.
Successful on the Billboard 200 and the source of solid Hot 100 performers, Minaj’s album “The Pinkprint” has thus far failed to produce a major hit at pop.
Lead single “Pills N Potions” failed to reach the Top 40 on Mediabase’s airplay chart, while the plan to push “Bed of Lies (featuring Skylar Grey)” was apparently abandoned. “Anaconda,” which was released between the two, gained some traction, but its #21 peak was certainly not enough to establish the song as a pop smash.
“The Night is Still Young” represents the next attempt to leverage Minaj’s overall star power–and support from other radio formats–to produce a standout pop track.
