Singles from two superstar acts scored sizzling receptions from hot adult contemporary radio programmers this week.
The warmer of the receptions went to Kelly Clarkson’s new single “Heartbeat Song.” The track, which commences her “Piece by Piece” album campaign, registers as the format’s most-added. It scored support from 34 monitored Mediabase stations.
Of course, when one considers that the other single is the third from an album rather than the lead, its add count, though lesser, is certainly nothing at which to sneeze. Maroon 5’s “Sugar,” the follow-up to fellow “V” single “Animals,” picked up support from 30 Hot AC stations to rank as second-most-added.
James Newton Howard’s top 20 hit “The Hanging Tree (featuring Jennifer Lawrence)” picked up another 14 adds this week. “Love Me Like You Do,” Ellie Goulding’s “50 Shades of Grey” track, follows as the week’s fourth-most-added song. It picked up 11 monitored stations.
Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance,” which is now in the format’s top forty, claims the fifth-most-added position. It launched at 9 stations this week.
Other popular weekly choices for Hot AC programmers: Ariana Grande & The Weeknd’s “Love Me Harder” (6th-most-added, 8 adds), Sheppard’s “Geronimo” (6th-most-added, 8 adds), Alesso’s “Heroes (we could be – featuring Tove Lo)” (8th-most-added, 7 adds), Jessie J’s “Masterpiece” (8th-most-added, 7 adds), Lilly Wood & Robin Schulz’ “Prayer in C” (8th-most-added, 7 adds), Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk (featuring Bruno Mars)” (8th-most-added, 7 adds) and Taylor Swift’s “Style” (8th-most-added, 7 adds).
