“Transparent” Wins Golden Globe for Best Comedy, “Fargo” for Miniseries or Movie

In a major victory for streaming service content, Amazon’s original series “Transparent” received the Golden Globe Award for Best television Musical or Comedy.

The freshman series, which received rave reviews and has helped expand interest in Amazon’s streaming content, beat out fellow freshmen “Jane the Virgin” and “Silicon Valley,” fellow streaming series “Orange is the New Black” and HBO’s critically acclaimed “Girls.”

“Transparent” star Jeffrey Tambor is, meanwhile, nominated for Best Performance in a television series. The winner of that award was to be revealed later in the broadcast.

— In other awards news, FX’s “Fargo” was named the best television miniseries or movie. Its Billy Bob Thornton won for best actor in that sort of program.
