Taylor Swift’s “Style” Goes Top 40 at Pop, Sells 56K More Copies

This past fall, Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” managed to reach the official top forty at pop radio ahead of its official radio impact date.

This Sunday evening, “Style” will achieve that milestone prior to even being declared Swift’s next official single.

According to Mediabase, “Style” was pop’s 40th-most-played song during the seven days between January 3 and January 9. It commanded 781 spins within that window.

Insofar as it is gaining airplay at a rapid rate, it will face no difficulty retaining its top forty position through the Sunday issuance of Mediabase’s official airplay chart. It will thus become the third top 40 pop hit from Swift’s “1989” album even before being formally declared the project’s next single.

Obviously, such a declaration is a mere formality at this point — Swift provided “Style” with high-profile exposure during the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, her label boss Scott Borchetta teased that he is “leaning towards Style” as the next single and a whopping fourteen monitored Mediabase pop stations added the song this week — but the song still deserves immense credit for so quickly gaining steam.

An even more impressive performer from an audience standpoint, the song’s weekly audience impression count of 6.55 million ranks as the format’s 35th-greatest.

— In addition to making gains at radio, “Style” was also one of only a few songs to enjoy a digital sales boost during the first tracking week of 2015 (since interested in many singles was inflated during Christmas week, they inevitably posted weaker numbers during the week ending January 4). “Style” moved 56,000 copies last week after moving 50,000 during Christmas week.

— “Style” also rises to #71 on the weekly Billboard Hot 100. While not yet back to its #60 peak, it is obviously on the move.
