Ratings: “American Idol” Holds Up in Night Two (Updated)

Update: Thursday’s two-hour “American Idol” drew a 3.0 adults 18-49 rating with 11.02 million viewers.

It fell slightly from Wednesday’s one-hour broadcast, which drew a 3.2 in adults 18-49 and 11.20 million total viewers (11.20 million).

==========

Significantly deflated but certainly not dead, “American Idol” opened its fourteenth season as Wednesday’s most-watched telecast. It ranked third in the adults 18-49 demographic.

Thursday’s episode predictably turned away some of Wednesday’s audience, but insofar as it benefited from a two-hour runtime (“Idol” tends to gain viewers from start-to-finish), it held up rather respectively.

The episode drew a 7.3 overnight household rating. Down 12% from the 8.3 delivered by last year’s corresponding episode, it trailed Wednesday’s premiere number by 6%.

It is unclear if the same retention will be demonstrated in the adults 18-49 and total viewership numbers. Those will be published by 11:30AM ET.
