CBS’ “Scorpion” Scores Coveted Post-AFC Championship Broadcast

CBS does not have broadcast rights for this year’s Super Bowl.

It will, however, broadcast the late afternoon AFC Championship game. That game, which will feature the winner of the Patriots-Ravens game against the winner of the Broncos-Colts matchup, will likely rank as 2015’s second-highest-rated primetime television program.

The game will thus provide coveted lead-in support, and CBS has opted throw that lead-in support behind freshman drama “Scorpion.”

A decent performer thus far in its regular Monday at 9PM slot, “Scorpion” will receive a lead-in boost that could fall in the neighborhood of 50 million viewers. It will air at approximately 10PM ET on January 18.

“Team Scorpion must jog the memory of an injured former Secret Service agent who is their only hope of preventing weapons of mass destruction being launched from a secret U.S. nuclear silo. David James Elliott (“JAG”) guest stars as the ex-Secret Service agent,” says CBS of “Forget Me Nots,” the special “Scorpion” episode that will air out of the AFC title game.

To capitalize on the momentum, CBS will then air a new episode in the show’s usual timeslot the following night.

“Charades,” that episode, finds the team “tasked with uncovering a mole inside the CIA who is coerced into stealing deadly chemicals.”
