On the one hand, it was headlined by a uniquely intense grudge match involving UFC’s marquee champion. On the other hand, it competed with the NFL Playoffs not only on fight night but when it comes to pre-fight press attention from major media outlets.
The first hand was evidently the stronger one.
During the post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White announced that UFC 182, which saw Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones defeat Daniel Cormier in the main-event, is tracking ahead of expectations when it comes to pay-per-view buys.
“More than 750,” boasted White in reference to pre-show expectations that the card would command 750,000 pay-per-view buys.
While the significance of the cited data is unclear, it was authoritative enough for White to make a public declaration on the caliber of the show’s performance.
UFC 182 featured Donald Cerrone vs. Myles Jury in its co-main-event.
