Already a top fifteen hit at pop radio, Meghan Trainor’s new single “Lips are Movin” is on the verge of getting there at the hot adult contemporary format.
The song this past week rose to #16 courtesy the Hot AC format’s greatest airplay gain.
According to Mediabase, “Lips are Movin” commanded 2,306 spins during the week between December 14 and 20. Enough for a two-place rise on the chart, the count also reflects a week-over-week spin gain of 536. No other song added as much to its play count this week.
Songs that came close include James Newton Howard’s #28 “The Hanging Tree (featuring Jennifer Lawrence)” (+468 to 879 weekly spins), Ed Sheeran’s #12 “Thinking Out Loud” (+439 to 3,035 weekly spins), Selena Gomez’ #29 “The Heart Wants What it Wants” (+366 to 872 weekly spins) and Hozier’s #5 “Take Me to Church” (+344 to 5,064 weekly spins).
Thanks to comparatively strong sales and streaming activity, “Lips are Movin” is already #4 on the weekly, all-encompassing Billboard Hot 100. While it is not expected to match the 8-week reign of predecessor “All About That Bass,” it is proving to be a very strong follow-up.
