Ratings Update: “Peter Pan Live” Down 48% from “Sound of Music”

Update 2: NBC’s “Peter Pan Live!” drew a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating with 9.2 million viewers according to final live+same-day data.  The numbers were down by 48% and 50%, respectively, from those delivered by last year’s “The Sound of Music Live!”

Update: Per fast national data, NBC’s broadcast of “Peter Pan Live!” drew a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating with 9.1 million viewers.

The show’s demo performance trails that of 2013’s “The Sound of Music Live!” (4.6) by 50%. Its viewership is down 51% from the 18.5 million garnered by “TSOM.”

NBC, nonetheless, won the night in the adults 18-49 demo and is likely to do the same in viewership once Dallas and Chicago football pre-emptions are removed from CBS’ nightly average.

If one expected NBC’s “Peter Pan Live!” to match the ratings delivered by last year’s “The Sound of Music Live,” he was setting himself up for major disappointment.

But few likely expected it to compare this unfavorably.

Thursday’s three-hour “Pan” broadcast drew a 5.9 overnight household rating. While that was enough for a nightly win in the household ratings race–and also foretells a victory in adults 18-49–it represents a dramatic decline from last year’s musical.

“The Sound of Music Live!” drew a 10.9 overnight household rating on December 5, 2013.

Particularly disappointing about the “Peter Pan” broadcast is the fact that its household audience steadily declined in each of the six half-hours. The special opened with a 7.4 overnight household rating in the 8-8:30PM half hour but closed the evening with a mere 4.6 from 10:30-11PM.
